Secrets of the Tabernacle Unlocked
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. (Isa 55:9)
The Bible is written in such a way that we humans are unable to comprehend what it is telling us, without the aid of the author, which is God.
In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple. (Isa 6:1)
When we look to God, we look up, because God is so much higher than we are. We think of this direction as literal, meaning that God resides somewhere in the upper stratosphere. But in our heart we know this concept is not descriptive of reality.
But will God indeed dwell on the earth? behold, the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house that I have builded? (1Kings 8:27)
God apparently fills all His creation, yet He's right at our side when we need Him. We talk to Him as if all He has to do is follow us around, watch over us as an individual, and straighten up the mischief we make of our lives.
God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. (John 4:24)
We read where God has hands, eyes, a heart, and so many other attributes associated with we humans. The Bible tells us that we are created in God's image. But could it also be that God is in our image as well?
What is man, that thou shouldest magnify him? and that thou shouldest set thine heart upon him? (Job 7:17)
When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour. Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet: (Psa 8:3-6)
For all our days are passed away in thy wrath: we spend our years as a tale that is told. The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away. (Psa 90:9-10)
Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity, which he hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity: for that is thy portion in this life, and in thy labour which thou takest under the sun. (Ecc 9:9)
No sooner are we born, then we are taken to our grave. We look back over our life when we reach its end, and we wonder what our life has been all about. We wonder if the world has benefited from our brief existence among its inhabitants.
And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. (Gen 1:26)
Man was designed to have dominion, that is, to have total power over God's creation. The world was to be subject to us, as it was to the prophets such as Elijah, and to Jesus and the Apostles. Jesus said:
And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. (Mat 17:20)
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. (John 14:12)
Jesus demonstrated power, not only over the things of this earth, but over life and death itself. And He said that those who believe in Him will be able to do what He has done, and more. Why is man unable to do these things when it seems clear that that's the reason he was created?
And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. (Gen 3:7-10)
Behold, the LORD'S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear. For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue hath muttered perverseness. (Isa 59:1-3)
Sin both hides us from God, and hides God from us. Above we read where God is spirit, and that those who worship Him must do so in truth and in spirit. Part of that truth is our recognizing that we have transgressed the will of God, that we confess this transgression, and that we repent of our deeds. Adam and Eve did none of these, and because of their failure, they were ejected from the presence of God, and the dominion they were created to possess, was denied them.
From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. (James 4:1-4)
For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. (Rom 8:5 -8)
A person who is carnally minded, that is, who is of the Adamic nature, will do that which suits themself. Such a person can not be allowed to have the power God intended for us to have. We see this in the world today, those in power will walk over whoever seems to be in their way to satisfy their own desires for glory and wealth. God wants those who will sacrifice themselves for the good of those in their charge, not use them, those they are made responsible for, to satisfy themselves.
And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: (Gen 3:22)
Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy. (Rev 3:4)
Along with being given dominion, mankind was destined to live forever. The two go together. A person who is not worthy of power, is not adequate for living forever in such a condition.
For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. (Rom 12:3)
But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. (James 4:6)
The opposite of pride is humility. In order to be with the Lord, and to reign with Him, a person must have what He demonstrated. We read:
(Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.) (Num 12:3)
After whom is the king of Israel come out? after whom dost thou pursue? after a dead dog, after a flea. [David speaking of himself] (1Sam 24:14)
How much less man, that is a worm? and the son of man, which is a worm? (Job 25:6)
Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation [“Nothing, empty”], and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: (Phi 2:6-9)
Those who God exalted, saw themselves as nothing. Even Jesus lowered Himself and became a servant to those He was set over.
Surely your turning of things upside down shall be esteemed as the potter's clay: for shall the work say of him that made it, He made me not? or shall the thing framed say of him that framed it, He had no understanding? (Isa 29:16)
Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts. For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little: For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear. But the word of the LORD was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken. (Isa 28:9)
From our birth we are given to see the world as something to please us, and to respond to our every whim. When we cried, there was always someone there to wipe our tears and tell us how wonderful we are. Life, however, does not revolve around us as we suppose. We are not the center of the universe. Part of understanding God's will is to know that we are here to please God and to help fulfill His purposes. God did not create us with the thought of catering to our wants and desires.
They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them. We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error. Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us. Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world. Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God. And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. We love him, because he first loved us. If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also. (1John 4:5-21)
There's an old saying that goes “Talk is cheap.” We find that there are a lot of people in this world who talk a big talk about how they are special in God's eyes, that they are righteous above many, yet they fail to exhibit what John is saying in these verses of Scripture.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16)
How do we know we're one of those Jesus died for? If we are not one of the saved, then we're still part of the lost. Jesus exhibited what He means by love, and John made it very clear what Jesus is calling for in those He died for. Do we fit those qualifications?
(For the LORD thy God is a jealous God among you) lest the anger of the LORD thy God be kindled against thee, and destroy thee from off the face of the earth. (Deut 6:15)
And he brought forth the people that were therein, and put them under saws, and under harrows of iron, and under axes of iron, and made them pass through the brickkiln: and thus did he unto all the cities of the children of Ammon. So David and all the people returned unto Jerusalem. (2Sam 12:31)
And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. (Gen 6:7)
And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth. (Rev 16:1)
We turn a blind eye to the above verses, and the other many verses similar in nature to those here. We don't like to think of God, or God's people being so destructive and unkind. Yet we have to accept all God does, and what he tells us, if we're to understand His purposes.
I find that most people, if they bother to consider the above verses at all, say, “Well, that was before the cross. Things are different now.” However, the last passage is clearly at the end of this age, not part of the Old Testament.
Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. (Isa 55:6-11)
Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure: (Isa 46:10)
O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor? (Rom 11:33-34)
God's ways are not our ways, nor can the carnal mind understand what God has planned for His creation.
God said that His words will not return to Him void. What He said in the Old Testament, will be accomplished regardless of whether we acknowledge His words or not, just because they don't fall within our concept of acceptability.
That saith of Cyrus, He is my shepherd, and shall perform all my pleasure: even saying to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be built; and to the temple, Thy foundation shall be laid. (Isa 44:28)
Behold, I will send and take all the families of the north, saith the LORD, and Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will bring them against this land, and against the inhabitants thereof, and against all these nations round about, and will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, and an hissing, and perpetual desolations. (Jer 25:9)
For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth. (Rom 9:17)
Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. (Jer 1:5)
But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel: For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake. (Act 9:15-16)
Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour? What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction: (Rom 9:21-22)
God looks down from His throne in Heaven and does as He pleases with those whom He has created. It's for His purpose the world and we were made, not for our own sake. God's ways are past finding out. But as long as we persist in looking at God and His desire for us through our own eyes, and not try to see through the eyes of God, we will continue to find many blank spots in our reasoning.
But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness. Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted. (1Cor 10:5-6)
And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. (Gen 6:6-7)
When God is not pleased with His creation, He is fully able and willing to destroy it. We think of ourselves as not fitting into the category of God's wrath, for whatever might be our reason. This is the thinking of the Jews seeing they were special in God's eyes, but we find in looking at history, that the people of God were at the center of God's wrath, not outside of it.
But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased. (Psa 115:3)
If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: (Isa 58:13)
For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry. Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul. (Heb 10:37-39)
God tells us what pleases Him, and this as children of God we are to do. We believe that God desires to please us, even when we are rebellious children. History tells us that this is faulty thinking. It's those who seek to please the Father that God holds in high esteem. How do we please the Father? Isaiah tells us plainly what God desires of us, and Solomon concludes with this statement:
Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil. (Ecc 12:13-14)
