Doctrine in dialogue format
Judge not, that ye be not judged.
"So you've heard such things of me have you. Yes, I suppose you would. Well, come right in Chastity. Have a seat and I'll get you a glass of tea, or would you prefer something on the, shall I say, harder side?"
"A glass of water would do me just fine Mrs Beadle, thank you. I try to shy away from anything beyond the basics. I hope you understand."
"That's a good avenue to take I'm sure. I should be more selective in what I consume as well. But I do enjoy being a bon vivant, if you know what I mean."
"Yes, I do. Allow me tell you a little about myself if I may. Being new in the community puts me at a disadvantage in that one has a way of being suspicious of outsiders. I do not wish to remain a stranger any longer than is necessary. My husband, whose name is Elysian Snow, and I have recently moved here from Utah where we attended the local church. My husband is a retired lawyer and I, a teacher, am also retired."
"A lawyer and a teacher you say. Mmm hmm, yes, impressive I dare say. Please, go on. Tell me more."
"Thank you Mrs Beadle."
"Please call me Hortense. There's no need for us to be so formal, is there Chastity."
"Thank you Hortense. I'm glad you feel that way. As I was saying, in our youth my husband was a missionary for two years in New Zealand. That is where we met and fell in love."
"Oh ho! A missionary you say. Impressive I must say. Very good. Please go on."
"Thank you Hortense. Yes, my husband then did extensive Bible study and later attended a college where he earned a doctorate in the field of Theology. Then, in order to share his understanding of the Word he began a school in the poorer section of town where he taught the Bible to those who might never have heard the Word."
"Mmmm Hmmm. Very impressive. A generous and thoughtful man besides. Please continue Charity. Would you care for some more water? I see your glass is empty."
"No thank you Hortense. I'm fine."
"Then please go on dear, tell me more."
"Thank you Hortense. Through the years my husband advanced in status in the church and was eventually ordained a High Priest......"
"Um, hold on a moment. A High Priest? Don't you mean a pastor? I've never heard of a church having a pastor called a High Priest. I'm sure you've gotten your titles mixed up."
"Not at all Hortense. You see, our church doesn't have a pastor in the way that you mean a pastor....."
"Your church doesn't have a pastor? What church do you belong to? I've never heard of a church without a pastor."
"My husband and I are Mormons Hortense. You see....."
"That's it. Well, that will be all now. Thank you for stopping by. I must be about my business. I'll show you to the door."
"But Hortense, I....?
"Please call me Mrs Beadle if you will. Now, good bye. And if you would, don't tell anyone I invited you into my house. You will do me that kindness won't you. Good. Thank you. Now be on your way."
1Judge not, that ye be not judged. 2For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. 3And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? (Mat 7:)
